August 17th, local time, a pregnant woman infected with the Coronavirus in Japan died after failing to get timely treatment for premature birth after she was unable to find a hospital to receive her.

The pregnant woman, now in her 30s and eight months pregnant, is reportedly nursing at her home in Chiba Prefecture after contracting the coronavirus.

On the afternoon of the 17th local time, she called an ambulance because of heavy bleeding. But rescuers have been unable to find a hospital to receive her because of the Coronavirus.

A few hours later, the pregnant woman had to be at home to have a baby.

In response, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Thursday that he mourns the dead baby and said the authorities will provide the necessary support to ensure that pregnant women receive first aid and hospitalization and other mechanisms.

At the same time, Kato said, “The current medical situation (in Japan) is really very serious, which is true.”
