December 3rd. On the afternoon of the 2nd, parts of the United States experienced a mysterious “explosion.” Many residents living in New York’s downtown and suburban areas reported to the police that they saw a fireball across the sky and heard a huge explosion, houses trembling, and windows creaking. According to US media, the sonic boom may be caused by a meteor falling on the ground.

According to Fox News Network and Dongsen News Cloud reports, the American Meteor Association has received nearly 100 reports from New York, Maryland, Michigan, and even Ontario, Canada, all of which are about the mysterious fireball in the sky on the 2nd sunrise.

A Twitter netizen wrote: “I’m in the center of New York, outside Syracuse University. I heard a loud noise half an hour ago and the house was shaking. The police are investigating the cause.” Another Twitter netizen said: “I’m here. Syracuse heard the explosion and hopes everyone is safe.” Many people echoed their messages, indicating that their houses are shaking. Another netizen said: “My first reaction was to check if there were any fallen trees on the roof. My next thought was that the meteorite fell down!” Another netizen joked: “Wow, yes. Who made the aliens take over the earth in December?”

Lunsford, a staff member of the American Meteor Association, said that the people heard the roar after noon Eastern Time, the sound may be caused by meteors passing through the earth’s atmosphere. People in New York, Canada and other places reported that they not only heard loud noises, but also saw a fireball across the sky. “When a meteor passes through the atmosphere, it produces a very loud and distant roar.”

Foreign media pointed out that although it is very rare to see a meteor during the day, if the meteor is large enough, it can pass through the upper atmosphere of the earth and be seen by people on the earth.
