February 18th – Philadelphia police said that on the afternoon of the 17th local time, a gun incident occurred near the downtown transportation hub in northern Philadelphia.

Eight people were shot, and the injured were from 17 to 71.

At present, one person has been arrested.

It is not clear about the motive of the suspect.

United States, the police said that the shooting took place at about 14:50 on the 17th.

Michael McCarrick, the chief police officer of the incident area, said that several people got off a car and opened fire on the crowd at the intersection.

Police say a 71-year-old African-American man was shot repeatedly in the abdomen and legs, and a 22-year-old African-American man was shot in the back.

An Afroman, 21, and a 53-year-old African-American man were shot in the right leg. An African-American woman, 36, and 70, were shot in the thigh and a 17-year-old African-old woman in the right arm.

“One person is currently undergoing surgery for serious injuries,” McCarrick said.

According to ABC, police initially said that seven people were shot, but later updated that an eighth man was treated at Einstein Medical Center and was scratched by bullets in the abdomen.

Police found two guns from the scene and arrested one suspect.

Reuters said that the information about the suspect is not clear or the motivation.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said, “There may be multiple gunmen, but we still don’t know.

Multiple barrels have been found, and we are still trying to determine whether they all come from the same gun.”

According to local media reports in Philadelphia, the gun was the second mass shooting in 2021.

A spokesman for Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s office declined to comment on the shooting.

As the coronavirus pandemic spreads, gun violence continues to rise in Philadelphia, and local researchers have linked the worsening security crisis to the epidemic. At least 71 people were murdered in Philadelphia in 2021, up 48% from the same period in 2020.

As of February 14, nearly 200 people had been shot in Philadelphia in 2021, compared with 121 in the same period in 2020.
