April 12 – TheĀ research team of Japan’s Marine Research and Development Agency said recently that a large amount of plastic waste was hoarded near the seabed 6,000 meters underwater in the waters of the Fangzong Peninsula, and the team is currently investigating it.
According to the Japan Economic News on the 12th, the Japanese manned diving survey ship “Deep Sea 6500” has been investigating since September 2019, and found that the deep sea area of Fangzong Peninsula has hoarded an average of 4,561 plastic garbage per square kilometer. According to the study, the plastic waste was thrown away decades ago and is difficult to decompose in the deep sea at low water temperature.
Japanese media also said that there are a large number of garbage bags, food packaging materials, etc. in these garbage. It is reported that more than 10 million tons of plastic waste flow into the sea every year, and the amount of plastic waste floating on the sea is about 440,000 tons.
