A Japanese Airlines Boeing 777 damaged its engine in the air on the 4th, forcing the pilot to return and make an emergency landing.

JAL Flight 904 departs from Naha Airport in Okinawa Prefecture at noon that day and heads for Tokyo, with 178 passengers and 11 crew members on board.

Japanese media outlets such as the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) television reported that during the climb, the pilot reported that the plane had broken down, and then returned and landed urgently.

No one was injured on board. Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport determined that this was a “major event” that could cause a serious accident, and a three-member team will investigate the incident.

Boeing’s 737MAX series of passenger planes suffered one major air crash in October 2018 and March 2019, killing more than 300 passengers and crew members. The airliner was grounded worldwide, and the FAA lifted the grounding order last month.
