Overseas Network, December 7th – A century-old church in New York, USA, caught fire on the 5th and was seriously damaged. The church contains the New York Liberty Bell. When the United States was founded in 1776, people rang the bell of freedom to celebrate, and since then, the inauguration and death of every American president will ring. According to the U.S. Business Insider website, on December 5 local time, the Middle Collegiate Church caught fire in New York. The local fire department posted on social media that four firefighters had been slightly injured in the fire. A fire broke out near the East Village of Manhattan, where the church is located, and the fire spread to the church. Middle College Church was badly damaged by fires, via photos and videos on social media.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted that the news of the fire was “heartbreaking”, adding that “we will do everything we can to help rebuild the church.” New York City Councilmember Carlina Rivera said in a statement that she was very sorry that the community in East Village was destroyed, and pointed out that the Middle College Church was “a landmark building in the East Village”.
The Middle School Church has a long history. The original building was built in 1729. The church building now located in the East Village of New York was completed in 1892. According to the church, since the first bell rang when the United States was founded in 1776, “the inauguration and death of every American president will ring”. The status of the Liberty Bell is unclear, according to The New York Times.
