January 19th – On theĀ 19th, local time, Takao Ando, a member of the House of Representatives of Japan, was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
On the 18th, he attended the opening ceremony of the 204th Japan’s regular parliament together with Prime Minister Suga and other key government officials.
According to a report by Japan’s Kyodo News Agency on the 19th, Ando, 61 years old, has only a sore throat, and has been quarantined at home.
On the 18th, a staff member of Ando’s office was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. Ando was subsequently tested and tested positive on the 19th.
According to the report, Ando is the eighth Japanese congressman to be diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
Although he attended the opening ceremony of the National Assembly on the 18th, the health department did not identify other participants as close contacts.
