Diego Maradona, a famous Argentine football star, died at home at the age of 60 after a sudden cardiac arrest on the 25th local time. As a recognized legend and hero in Argentina, his coffin will be parked in the Argentine presidential palace for public viewing.
According to reports by the Argentine Horn and the Buenos Aires Times on the 25th local time, the Argentine government confirmed that Maradona’s coffin will be parked in the Casa Rosada, the presidential palace of Argentina, for three days from the 26th for public worship. It is reported that six former Argentine presidents and Juan Manuel Fangio, a famous Argentine Formula One (F1) driver, were also reported to have been suspended for public attention.
At the same time, the Argentine presidential palace issued a proclamation on the 25th, announcing that Argentina will enter a three-day mourning period from now on.
On the same day, local prosecutors also said that they would carry out an autopsy on Maradona’s body to determine the cause of death.
Maradona was born in 1960 and led the Argentine national team to win the 1986 World Cup. According to Xinhua News Agency’s previous report, since his retirement in 1997, Maradona has had many health problems, the most serious of which was an emergency hospitalization for heart disease caused by a lung infection in 2004, and he suffered from heartbeat and respiratory arrest. Maradona underwent cerebral thrombosis surgery earlier this month, and then was discharged from the hospital to his residence in Tigray, Buenos Aires, where he received alcohol treatment from a doctor.
