The UK initially planned to ban the sale of new gasoline and diesel vehicles in 2040 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Johnson advanced this deadline to 2035 in February this year. “Financial Times” quoted a number of auto industry and government officials as saying that Johnson is scheduled to advance this deadline by 5 years to 2030 when he delivers an environmental policy speech next week. However, hybrid vehicles will still be banned in 2035 as originally planned.
Reuters said that the ban on the sale of new gasoline and diesel vehicles marked a major shift in the British car market. Data show that since the beginning of this year, gasoline and diesel vehicle sales accounted for 73.6% of total new vehicle sales, pure electric vehicles accounted for only 5.5%, and the remaining share was hybrid vehicles.
