According to local media reports, the delegation of Afghan political leaders visiting Islamabad on 17 August met with Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army Chief of Staff Bajwa to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan stressed that no country aspires more to peace and stability in Afghanistan than Pakistan. He also stressed the importance of efforts to promote inclusive political solutions.
He said that under the current circumstances, Afghan leaders shoulder a major responsibility to “work constructively together to lead Afghanistan on the path of sustainable peace, stability and development” and assured the delegation that Pakistan will firmly support such efforts.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations Department (ISPR), the two sides discussed the current situation in Afghanistan in detail during a subsequent meeting between a delegation of Afghan political leaders and Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Bajwa.
Bajwa said Pakistan hopes to build a broad relationship with Afghanistan and is willing to do everything possible to help Afghanistan achieve an inclusive solution, which is essential for regional peace and prosperity.
