Gal Gadot, a well-known Israeli actor and star of the comic book hero film Wonder Woman, has caused a backlash among critics with a tweet that conveys “unity,” the New York Post reported Tuesday. Some netizens believe that the actress, a former IDF soldier, is a “propaganda tool” for the Israeli military.
Gal Gadot tweeted her “heartbreak” after renewed clashes between The Palestinians and Israel because her country is at war. Israel and Hamas militants have launched deadly rocket attacks on each other in the recent escalation of tensions in disputed areas of Jerusalem.
The actor tweeted: “This is a vicious circle that has lasted too long. Israel should live as a free and secure state, as should our neighbours. I pray for the victims and their families. I pray that this unimaginable animosity will end, and I pray that our leaders will find a solution so that we can live in peace. ”
Some Twitter users immediately criticized Gal Gadot’s military experience online, accusing her of supporting “ethnic cleansing” and “mass genocide.” However, Gal Gadot then turned off her tweet comments.
According to FoxNews.com, one user reminded: “Gal Gadot served in the Israel Defense Forces for two years and not only witnessed the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, but also actively supported it.” When you are on the front lines of terrorism, how can you advocate for the suppression of the vicious circle of terrorism? ”
One netizen wrote, “When we say we’re going to boycott Gal Gadot, people say we’re exaggerating.” (But) Gal Gadot is a propaganda tool for her Government and the occupying forces (IDF) to which she once served. She didn’t even say the word Palestine. Should be thrown into the dustbin of history. ”
However, support was also supported for Gal Gadot’s call for peace and it was noted that all Israeli citizens over the age of 18 were required to perform military service. One user wrote: “People expressed their anger online at Gal Gadot because she was a veteran of the Israel Defense Forces (all Israeli adults must serve in the army for at least two years) and dared to share a heartwarming message of peace during the conflict.” There were a lot of disgusting people in the comments she tweeted. ”
U.S. Republican Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the actress, tweeting, “God bless Gal Gadot.”
