May 8, local time, the Central Counter-Terrorism Committee of Myanmar issued a circular stating that the Myanmar People’s Defence Forces and their affiliated local organizations, the Government of National Unity of Myanmar and the Federal Council of Representatives had been designated as terrorist organizations.
The Myanmar Central Committee on Counter-Terrorism stated that the decision had been taken in accordance with the Myanmar Anti-Terrorism Act and with the consent of the National Governing Council.
The Myanmar People’s Defence Forces (MDF) was announced by the Government of National Unity of Myanmar on 5 May, followed by the announcement of the establishment of local affiliates of the People’s Defence Forces (PDF) in Gusse, Naypyitu, and elsewhere.
The Government of National Unity of Myanmar was established on 16 April by the Committee of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Myanmar. On 20 April, the Ministry of the Interior declared the Government of National Unity an illegal organization, followed by the announcement that it was wanting key members of the Government of National Unity.
