First, China welcomes the continued overall stability of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the occasion of the twenty-first anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina reaffirmed its commitment to the Agreement, the holding of local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina as scheduled and the steady progress of the reform of the Brcko District are positive developments that deserve recognition. At the same time, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s nation-building still faces many challenges. We encourage all parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina to give priority to the interests of the state and the people, strengthen dialogue and consultation, enhance mutual trust, promote national harmony, resolve disputes and differences, and promote the resolution of outstanding problems in nation-building.
Second, China hopes that all ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina will work together to deal with the outbreak of coronavirus. At present, the outbreak of coronavirus has not been effectively controlled in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and we encourage all parties to work together to protect the safety and health of the people of all ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and take this as an opportunity to enhance mutual trust and reconciliation and achieve harmonious coexistence. The international community should increase its support for the fight against the pandemic in Bosnia and Herzegovina. China has donated protective supplies and testing reagents to Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized medical experts to share their experiences with Bosnia and Herzegovina on several occasions, and recently provided a coronavirus made in China.
Third, China calls on the international community to adhere to a fair and balanced position on the Bosnia-Herzegovina issue. We encourage the High Representative to maintain constructive dialogue and cooperation with all parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The appointment of the High Representative should be handled in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement and past practice. Twenty-five years after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina has changed considerably. The international community should examine concrete ways to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in implementing the Dayton Peace Agreement in the light of the development of the situation, so as to make it more in line with the needs of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
China has always respected the sovereignty, independence, national unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and believes that the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina have the ability and wisdom to solve their own problems. China will continue to work with other countries to support the process of national reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and safeguard peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans.
