U.S. Central Command said on May 4, local time, the full withdrawal of U. S. troops from Afghanistan has been completed about 2% to 6%.
About 60 C-17 cargo planes have been withdrawn from Afghanistan, about 1,300 military equipment has been handed over to the Defense Logistics Agency for destruction, and the U.S. military has formally handed over control of its new Anthony base in southern Helmand province to the Afghan National Army, U.S. Central Command said in a press release.
Central Command said it planned to release a weekly update on the withdrawal process, but because of concerns about the security of the withdrawal, Central Command will only provide a percentage of the completion of the withdrawal.
Biden’s administration has previously announced that U.S. troops in Afghanistan will begin withdrawing from the country starting May 1, completing all evacuations on the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, and September 11 this year.
