May 1 2021 The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released data Thursday (April 29) estimating that about 35 percent of Americans were infected with Coronavirus between February 2020 and March 2021, nearly half of whom were between the ages of 18 and 49 and 23 percent were 17 or younger.
According to Fox News, the CDC estimates that from February 2020 to March 2021, 114.6 million Americans were infected with Coronavirus, 97.1 million showed symptoms of Coronavirus, and 5.6 million were hospitalized. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. population was 331 million in April, meaning that more than a third of Americans are at risk of contracting Coronavirus, and about 1.7 percent of those hospitalized for infections are about 1.7 percent of the population, 47 percent of whom are 65 or older and only 4 percent are 17 or younger.
As of Friday (April 30), the official number of confirmed cases in the United States was 32.3 million, and the CDC’s estimate was four times higher than the official figure. The CDC says the difference in numbers may be related to some infected people being asymptomatic and not being tested, and that even if someone has symptoms, they may not seek medical attention or be tested, so it is impossible to confirm a diagnosis.
