The 2021 Asian Boxing Championships, scheduled for May in New Delhi, India, will be moved to Dubai, according to the UAE’s official news agency Ata news agency.
With travel restrictions imposed on India by many countries due to the severity of Coronavirus outbreak, it is no longer possible to host major international events in New Delhi.
The UAE Boxing Federation offered to host the event, which was reschedued for May 21 in Dubai, in coordination with the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Indian Boxing Federation.
Anas Al-Otaiba, president of the Asian and Uae Boxing Federation, said it would give Asian boxers who qualify for the Tokyo Games a chance to compete and prepare them for the Games in July.
