April 27 2021 The City Council of Nansangma, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, passed a resolution calling on the central government to withdraw its decision to discharge nuclear waste water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea.
In a resolution, the Nansama City Council said Tepco had promised fishermen in 2015 that it would “not dispose of nuclear wastewater without the understanding of relevant personnel”, accusing Tepco of reneging on its commitments and undermining public trust, Kyodo News reported Wednesday.
“Forcing a decision in defiance of the voices of the local population would destroy Fukushima’s decade-long post-disaster reconstruction efforts,” the resolution said, expressing dissatisfaction with Tepcin’s treachery.
The Nanxiangma City Council asked Teponic to continue to store nuclear waste water on the ground and seriously consider treatment methods that could be understood by the public.
