At around 11 a.m. local time on April 26, the case involving Myanmar’s President Win Min and State Minister Aung San Suu Kyi was heard for the fifth time in the Zebudir Court in the capital, Naypyit. Five lawyers from the NLD-appointed team of defence lawyers attended the hearing, which was conducted on video and lasted about two hours.
According to Aung San Suu Kyi’s defense lawyer Min Min-so, the hearing was mainly against the President and the State Administration jointly involved in violations of the Myanmar Natural Disaster Management Law and the State Administration suspected of violating the Myanmar Import and Export Law, the judge questioned the two cases, but did not enter the court investigation stage. At the same time, the Court rejected the defence team’s request for offline meetings with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the prosecution, citing the absence of approval from the relevant authorities.
Eight lawyers in the NLD’s legal team appointed for Aung San Suu Kyi have now been authorized, and the team will also be in charge of President Wen Min’s defence. The case will be heard again on May 10.
Currently, State Minister Aung San Suu Kyi faces six charges, five of which are heard in the Zebudri court in Nebidu, including violations of article 8 of the Myanmar Import and Export Act, article 67 of the Myanmar Telecommunications Act, article 505 of the Criminal Code and two persons charged with violating article 25 of the Myanmar Natural Disaster Management Act; President Wen Min faces two charges, both of which are heard in the Zebudri courthouse in Naybidu. One of the violations of article 25 of the Myanmar Natural Disaster Management Act is a joint charge between the State Administration and the President.
According to Min Min-so’s lawyer, state-owned Aung San Suu Kyi and President Wen Min are in good health.
