April 25 2021 At least 8 people were killed and 384 others were evacuated after a glacier broke off and triggered an avalanche in India’s northern state of Akende on Thursday, the Indian military said in a statement. It was also reported that the avalanche also caused 38 people missing.

An Indian defense ministry official said “eight bodies have been found and rescue operations are under way” and 384 others were moved to safety, six of them seriously.

North Akhund Chief Minister Ravat said rescue efforts began immediately after the avalanche and continued into the night. Rescue work was once suspended due to bad weather, 24 morning resumed.

In a post on the social networking site, Mr Rawat said heavy snow had disrupted road traffic and authorities were working to restore communications networks.

In February 2021, at least 80 people were killed and many others were missing after a glacier break in India’s northern state of Akende triggered flash floods.
