21 local time, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee by voice vote passed the Ukraine Security Partnership Act, which will provide assistance to Ukraine, which is in a tense military standoff with Russia, and put pressure on companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project.
The bill includes a mandate to provide $300 million in foreign military aid to Ukraine, of which $150 million is conditional assistance. The bill still needs to be voted on in both the House and Senate before it can become law after President Joe Biden has signed it into law.
Recently, Russia and Ukraine have been blaming each other for the escalation of the conflict in the donbass region of eastern Ukraine, and Ukraine has been seeking international assistance in response to the confrontation with Russia in eastern Ukraine and Crimea.
