U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing to appoint Nicholas Burns, a Harvard professor and senior diplomat, as ambassador to China and is under final scrutiny, the U.S. news site AXIOS reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
AXIOS reported that China-U.S. relations are the most critical and important issue in Biden’s presidency, and Biden needs experienced diplomats to help him deal with china-U.S. issues.
Burns, 65, has 27 years of experience in the U.S. federal government in foreign affairs. He has served as State Department press secretary, U.S. ambassador to Greece and U.S. representative to NATO.
During George W. Bush’s presidency, he served as undersecretary of state at the State Department. Burns was a foreign policy adviser to The Biden team during the 2020 U.S. presidential campaign and is currently a professor of international relations and diplomacy at Harvard’s Kennedy School.
