April 16th Cooperation and vaccines are the only way for the world to overcome coronavirus outbreak, whose director of the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe said in Athens, Greece.
Klug arrived in Athens on the 15th and attended the opening ceremony of the Athens Centre for Care Quality and Patient Safety established by WHO. He met with Greek Prime Minister Mizotakis on the 16th.
According to Greek media reports, Klug said during the meeting that cooperation and vaccines are the only way for the world to overcome coronavirus outbreak.
He called on countries to expand the scale of vaccinations and hoped that people would increase their confidence in vaccinations. He added that about 8 million people worldwide die each year from poor care and that Europeans need better care. The Athens Centre for Care Quality and Patient Safety will be an innovation hub that will benefit all European countries.
Mizotakis also stressed that vaccination is safe and effective, and that the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the possible risks.
According to a WHO bulletin, the newly established Athens Centre for Care Quality and Patient Safety will help achieve the highest level of health well-being and health protection within the WHO European region and close WHO’s links with people in South-Eastern European and Mediterranean countries.
Greece has received more than 2.4 million doses of coronavirus vaccine as of the 16th, according to government figures released.
