According to Albania’s Daily News on April 12th local time, the number of deaths in Albania has increased significantly compared with last year due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic.
According to statistics, in January, February and March this year, the death toll in Albania exceeded 2,800, 3,500 and 3,800 respectively.
The total number of deaths in the country in the first quarter of this year increased by 70% compared with the same period last year, especially in March this year, with the death toll increasing by 108% year-on-year. Between April 2020 and March 2021, the number of deaths in Albania amounted to more than 32,200, an increase of 48 percent from a year earlier.
This means that the outbreak of the novel coronavirus has caused a net increase of more than 10,000 deaths in Albania. The statistic also shows that Albania’s mortality rate increased from March to December 2020 was the highest among European countries, which is 38 percent higher than the country’s average death rate between 2016 and 2019.
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic, Albania’s mortality rate is 30% higher than that of the average situation in other European countries.
