According to a report on the Egyptian pyramid online website on April 6th local time, Osama Rabiye, chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, revealed that he was currently negotiating with the Japanese shipowner of the cargo ship Nagashi on the issue of financial compensation, and Rabiye expressed his hope to reach an out-court settlement on this issue.
On March 31, the Suez Canal Authority said it would demand compensation of more than $1 billion for the cargo ship’s stranding to compensate for the losses and related rescue costs caused by the six-day suspension of the canal, but did not specify who would be responsible for paying the huge compensation. Rabbier warned that if things turned into a legal dispute, the cargo ship would not be allowed to leave the canal.
At present, the cargo ship is being investigated in the Great Bitter Lake area moored in the Suez Canal. Rabier said that investigators analyzed the data of the black box of the cargo ship, but no conclusions have been reached on the reasons for the stranding.
