According to the information released by the Belarusian State News Agency on the 6th local time, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makji said on the same day that the country may close its embassy in some countries.
On the same day, Belarusian President Lukashenka held a thematic meeting on optimizing Belarusian institutions abroad. After the meeting, Makj said: “We will close the embassy in Belarus in at least a few countries. For a long time, the work of these embassies has not made its due contribution to foreign economic liaison. However, we will expand our presence in some “prospective” areas. President Lukashenko has mentioned this many times.
Makj said that the last time Belarus was optimized abroad was between 2017 and 2018. Since then, many changes have taken place, so it is necessary to re-examine the previous working patterns of foreign agencies. It is planned that during the closure process, economic relations with these countries, including economic cooperation, bilateral trade volume and Belarus’s exports to the country, will be considered first.
Makyi said that the closure of embassies abroad will be gradual, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus has submitted a work program to the President, which has received the support of the President. Under the program, Belarus will not increase the number of diplomatic missions abroad and financial allocations.
