April 5th, local time, the Belgian News Agency quoted the information released by the Antwerp City Prosecutor’s Office, saying that the Belgian Customs, together with the Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Police and the Antwerp City Prosecutor’s Office, seized a total of 27.64 tons of cocaine in the port of Antwerp in the past 42 days, involving a total amount of 13. 8.2 billion euros. From the evening of April 2 to the early morning of April 3 alone, law enforcement officials seized about 11 tons of cocaine in a container at Pier 869, Port of Antwerp.
Since the end of 2018, Belgium has launched a judicial investigation into a mobile phone encrypted communication software because more and more drug traffickers have been found to communicate through the software in the previous investigation. It is reported that the company that develops this software is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, and operates in Canada and the United States.
Professionals in the Belgian police have intercepted a large number of drug trafficking messages sent through the communication software and successfully cracked them. The anti-drug operation in Port Antwerp is also based on these cracked data.
The Antwerp City Prosecutor’s Office said that the investigation of relevant drug traffickers will continue.
