March 1 – According to Reuters, an Israeli cargo ship that exploded in the Gulf of Oman has arrived at Dubai’s port and will conduct a condition assessment at a dry dock there.
The MV Helios Ray was a cargo ship carrying cars that exploded during the night between February 25 and 26.
Several holes were blown out on both sides of the hull, according to U.S. Department of Defense officials.
Israel’s Defense Minister said on February 27 that the preliminary assessment found that “Iran is responsible for the bombing”.
Iranian officials did not immediately comment.
At present, the ship is moored in Dubai’s port of Rashid.
The explosion occurred in the coastal waters of Muscat, the capital of Oman.
Israeli media previously reported that a delegation from the country was going to Dubai to investigate.
Tensions in the Gulf region have increased since then-US President Trump announced his withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement and reimposed sanctions on Iran in 2018.
Since then, the United States has accused Iran of “many attacks on ships in the Gulf waters, including two Saudi tankers”. Iran denied this.
