Italian ambassador was attacked and killed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the 22nd confirming that the convoy of the United Nations peacekeeping force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was attacked in Virunga National Park near the eastern city of Goma, and Italian Ambassador Luca Atanasio died of serious injuries.

A spokesman for Virunga National Park said that the attack was part of a kidnapping plan for United Nations personnel.
