Japanese couple stayed in hotel quarantine and left two children at home alone for 11 days
According to Kyodo News, a Japanese couple stayed in a hotel for more than a week after
receiving the government’s subsidy for the new crown epidemic, while their 3-year-old and
1-year-old daughters were left alone at their Kagoshima home.
The couple was sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment on Tuesday with a suspended sentence.

were charged with waiving the guarantor’s liability and sentenced to two years in prison with a four-year suspension of execution.
Kagoshima District Court Judge Tomita Enji said, “This is a crime that poses a high risk to life.”
It is reported that the younger girl was found to have symptoms of dehydration.
Tomita Enji said that although the prosecutor requested a two-year imprisonment for the couple,
the court allowed probation because the mother stated that she planned to follow
the advice of social workers and her own parents to take good care of her daughter.
According to the verdict, the couple stayed in a budget hotel in Kagoshima from July 11 to 21.
Although they had returned home to feed their daughter many times, they stayed between July 15 and 20. Did not go home at all. Both admitted to these allegations.
During the trial, the mother said that the reason they thought of paying the hotel bill with
a subsidy of 100,000 yen per person was because she “is too tired from work and wants to escape this messy home.”
