According to Iran’s official news agency, Garibabadi, Iran’s Permanent Representative in Vienna, announced on the 15th that Iran has written to
the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency that it will stop implementing voluntary measures based on the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, including the implementation of the Additional Protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, from February 23.
In the letter, Iran requested the International Atomic Energy Agency to take the necessary cooperation measures for Iraq-related actions as soon as possible.
Garibabadi said that in the future, Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency will only be carried out on the basis of its comprehensive safeguards agreement obligations until the sanctions against Iraq are substantively lifted.
The Iranian Parliament passed the Anti-Sanctions Strategy Law last December, requiring the government to further reduce the implementation of Iran’s obligations under the
Iran nuclear agreement without finding “loose” sanctions against Iran for a certain period of time, including the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Agreement in late February 2021.
