According to local media reports, on February 14, the fourth confirmed case of Ebola was found in Butembo, North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a staff member of the health system.
A source from the Democratic Republic of the Congo Health Ministry pointed out that this is the first confirmed case among medical personnel. The Ebola response team is being deployed locally.
There are currently nearly 10,000 doses of Ebola vaccine in the country, some of which are on the way to Butembo.
On 25 June 2020, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Minister of Health Longundo announced the official end of the tenth round of Ebola outbreak in the northeastern provinces of Ituri and North Kivu.
This round of epidemic began in August 2018 and lasted for nearly two years. There were 3,324 confirmed cases, 153 suspected cases and 2,287 deaths.
It constitutes a public health emergency of international concern and is the most serious Ebola epidemic in the history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Less than eight months before the end of the epidemic, confirmed cases of Ebola have been found again in North Kivu Province.
