The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (FEHD) initially estimated that about 83 tons of garbage were collected at the 15 annual flower sales outlets in Hong Kong on February 12, of which about 11 tons were collected at the annual flower sales point in Victoria Park.
A spokesman for the FEHD said that the FEHD will continue to cooperate with the Environmental Campaign Committee and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) this year to promote environmental concepts at various flower outlets.
In addition to recycling generally recyclable items (including waste paper, plastics and metals) at various annual flower sales points, they also recycle bamboo branches, wooden cardboard, foam glue, and withered or unsold flowers to enhance the recycling of resources.
The contractor collected a total of about 33 tons of bamboo branches, 1.9 tons of wooden cardboard, 0.7 tons of foam glue, and 24 tons of withered or unsold flowers at 15 annual flower sales points.
All materials will be recycled or donated to other groups and people by the EPD or environmental groups.
According to the introduction, in order to clean up the garbage at the Victoria Park annual flower sales point, the FEHD mobilized 129 employees and 27 garbage collection trucks and water trucks.
The remaining 14 annual flower sales points are cleaned up by the cleaning service contractor. The cleaning of all annual flower sales points was completed at about 17:00. After thorough cleaning, the site has been restored to its original clean appearance.
