A policeman was shot dead in New Mexico, USA. A policeman was injured.

New Mexico police confirmed that a police officer in the state was shot dead by a suspect on the afternoon of the 4th, and another policeman was injured.

Police said the shooting took place on a highway near the southern New Mexico city of Las Cruces as police were driving after a suspect.

After a policeman was shot dead, the suspect continued to drive east along the highway and shot another policeman who tried to intercept the vehicle.

The injured policeman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the injury is currently stable.

Police confirmed that the suspect had been shot by the police and the cause of the shooting is still under investigation.
