According to CNN local time on February 2, U.S. President Biden signed three executive orders on the same day to correct the Trump administration’s tough immigration policy and improve the immigration status quo.
The following are the details of the three executive orders:
Establish a working group to promote family reunification: The task force will be chaired by the Secretary of Homeland Security and aims to reunite children with parents who have been forced to separate.
The working group will also report regularly to the President.
Assessing legal immigration programs in the United States: This includes the “Central American Minor Project” that began under the Obama administration, which allows certain children in the region to legally reunite with their families in the United States.
Former President Trump terminated the project in 2017.
Review of legal immigration: Instruct the U.S. Department of State, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security to review the guidelines and policies implemented by the Trump administration to determine whether they are in line with the current U.S. government’s aspirations to promote “integration and inclusion”.
