CNN reported on February 2 that a Trump adviser said that more lawyers may join the former president’s legal team in the days before the impeachment trial begins, and there is no timetable to announce the news.
Another adviser said that Trump is still “obsessed with the false conspiracy theory that there are fraud in the election”.
A congressional Republican said that many Republicans in the Senate would rather Trump avoid talking about “lies about the election results”, especially after the impact on the Capitol on January 6.
According to CNN previously, Trump appointed two lawyers to his impeachment defense team on Sunday, a day after it was reported that five defense lawyers on his team had withdrawn.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted on January 13 to pass an impeachment clause against Trump, accusing him of “sedition”.
With only one week left before Trump officially stepped down as President of the United States, he also became the first president in American history to be impeached by the House twice.
On the 26th, 100 senators of the Senate were sworn in to form a jury and officially took over the impeachment case.
In accordance with the previous agreement between the Democratic and Republican parties, the formal hearing, including the prosecution and defense, will start as soon as the week of February 8.
