January 27 The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a security announcement on the 27th, saying that at present, security threats across the United States are intensifying, and there may be ideologically motivated riots and violence in the next few weeks.
This security notice is issued through the Department’s National Anti-Terrorism Information System, with alert level “The United States faces a credible terrorist threat”, which is valid through April 30, 2021.
The Washington Post noted that the bulletin was a lower level warning intended to alert the general public to general risks.
But the security alerts issued by the system are usually aimed at security threats from foreign governments or radical organizations, and no notice has been issued in recent years to be alert to domestic extremists.
The U.S. Department of Land Security said that although it did not receive specific information about the possible incident, it was still worried that individuals would continue to incite riots and violence based on dissatisfaction with the transfer of power between the U.S. government and the President, as well as ideological differences caused by false information.
The bulletin specifically warns against the threat of “domestic violent extremists”: they target people who disagree with themselves.
The announcement said that these extremists, stimulated by a series of problems such as epidemic prevention restrictions, the results of the 2020 election in the United States and the use of force by the police, may plan and launch attacks on government facilities.
The proclamation said that long-standing racial and ethnic tensions in the United States, including anti-immigrant tendencies, may lead to extreme incidents of domestic violence.
The announcement also pointed out in particular that the above stimulus factors will continue the threat of violent extreme events in the United States in early 2021.
The violent impact on Congress on January 6 this year threatens to bolder attacks on U.S. officials and government facilities.
The announcement said that misleading information and conspiracy theories about the coronavirus epidemic have encouraged extremists’ behavior.
Threats of violence against critical infrastructure such as electricity, communications and health care increased in 2020.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security calls on federal agencies and law enforcement agencies to continue to take preventive measures to protect the lives and infrastructure of the American people.
