Portland police said on January 21 local time that the police arrested another seven people during the overnight protests and riots near the headquarters of the Democratic Party in Oregon, bringing the total number of arrests to 15.
The Portland Police Department said in a press release that the seven arrested people were between 20 and 44 years old and faced charges including beating police officers, carrying hidden weapons and creating riots.
Police said that from 2:45 p.m. on the day of the president’s inauguration (20th), about 150 to 200 protesters came to destroy the headquarters of the Oregon Democratic Party.
They first stole a police officer’s bicycle, then broke the windows of the Democratic headquarters and graffiti on the building. Subsequently, the protesters lit the dustbins on the street.
At about 9 p.m. on the 20th, about 150 protesters wearing helmets or gas masks, carrying shields, batons and umbrellas, came to the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to carry out sabotage.
Eight people were arrested that night.
