January 21, Geneva time, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, led a U.S. delegation to participate in the 148th Executive Committee of WHO remotely.
WHO Director-General Tedros said during the meeting that since the COVID-19 pandemic, Fauci has regularly participated in WHO conference calls to thank him for his support to WHO over the years.
Tedros also congratulated U.S. President Biden and Vice President Harris, and thanked Biden for keeping his promise, maintaining the United States’s WHO membership, and promising to join the “COVID-19 vaccine implementation plan”.
On the 20th local time, U.S. President Biden signed a number of executive orders on his first day of office, including announcing that the United States will rejoin the Paris Agreement and the World Health Organization.
