On January 20th local time, the new U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris made his first appearance in the Senate, and listened to the swearing-in of three new Democratic senators as vice president for the first time.
Three new senators — Georgia’s Jon Ossoff and Rafael Warnock — and Harris’ California successor, Alex Padilla, were sworn in.
It will be groundbreaking. Warnock and Osdorf will represent Georgia, respectively, becoming the first African-American and the first Jewish senator, while Padilla will become the first Latino senator in California.
The inauguration of three Democratic senators means that the Democratic Party holds half of the Senate seat 50:50, and Vice President Kamala Harris’s vote will determine the victory or defeat in the Senate deliberative decision.
