According to South African media reports on January 19th local time, the South African government is developing an electronic vaccination data system (EVDS) to facilitate the smooth promotion of the coronavirus vaccine in South Africa in the future.
The data system can provide information about vaccinated personnel, demographics, doses; various adverse reactions after vaccination, vaccination sites; reminder and tracking of people who have not been inoculated for a second vaccination; reasons for refusing vaccination, etc.
At the same time, South Africa may join the Vaccine Certificate Program (VCI) established by Oracle, Microsoft and other business groups in the future.
The program is designed to give individuals who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 access their vaccination records, also known as the “Vaccine Passport,” in a secure, verifiable and privacy-protected manner.
The passport can be stored in the digital wallet of the mobile phone, or it can be used as an inspection certificate through a printed QR code.
The voucher will become more and more important for South Africans who want to travel abroad in the coming months or years.
