January 19th – In the early morning of the 19th, local time, at least 13 migrant workers died after being run over by a truck while sleeping on the roadside in Gujarat, western India.
Six others were seriously injured.
According to a BBC report on the 19th, the truck that caused the accident lost control after colliding with a tractor and drove to more than a dozen migrant workers who were sleeping on the roadside.
These migrant workers are all from Rajasthan in northern India.
According to the report, in India, migrant workers often sleep on the roadside, and they often risk being run over by traffic.
In 2020, 16 migrant workers who had planned to follow the rail line to the nearest station and take the train home by the train, died after being run over by a truck while sleeping on the railway.
