Based on the current growth rate, the cumulative number of coronavirus cases reported in the United States this week will reach 25 million, and the death toll will exceed 400,000.
The total number of combat and non-combat deaths in World War II was announced by the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“This week, the U.S. will reach two terrible ‘milestones,’” said Peter Hotez, a professor at Baylor School of Medicine in Houston, on social media.
The number of coronavirus deaths in the United States last Sunday exceeded 397,000, according to Hopkins University.
The average daily death toll has exceeded 3,000, sometimes even 4,000, during the surge in the latest infections.
