The general of the Russian Air Force died of COVID-19 and participated in directing the Chernobyl accident rescue.

According to Russian media reports on January 17, Russian State Duma MP and Air Force Admiral Nikolai Antoshkin died of COVID-19 on the same day at the age of 79.

In 1986, Antoshkin, then Chief of Staff of the Kiev Military Region Air Force, participated in the rescue of the Chernobyl accident and personally organized the pilot to complete the reconnaissance mission across the reactor.

He was awarded the title of “Soviet Hero”
