WHO: More coronavirus vaccines will be available in the future
On January 15th local time, the WHO held a regular press conference on COVID-19. Sumia Swaminatan, the chief scientist of WHO, said that some coronavirus vaccines have been approved for use in some countries.
Now more than 170 candidate vaccines are in the preclinical research stage, and 65 vaccines are in clinical.
Among the trials, 15 are in phase III clinical trials, which brings a lot of hope and more tools and vaccines will be available in the future.
“There are 46 countries that have started COVID-19 vaccinations, 38 of which are high-income countries and should ensure that all countries have access to safe and effective vaccines,” said WHO Assistant Director-General Marianjera Simão.
