The Ministry of Health of Cyprus announced on January 4th local time that a local case of infection with a mutant strain of COVID-19 has been found.
According to the introduction, the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics analyzed 24 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last week of December 2020, and one case was identified as infected by a mutant strain of COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health of Cyprus said that the number of cases of mutant strain infection found so far is too small, and more in-depth investigation is needed to assess the spread of new strains in Cyprus.
On January 3rd local time, the Ministry of Health of Cyprus announced the discovery of 12 cases of imported new strains of COVID-19, which were detected among the population of passengers arriving in Cyprus from the United Kingdom between December 6 and 20, 2020.
According to the latest epidemic notification released by the Ministry of Health of Cyprus on January 4, in the past 24 hours, there have been 665 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cyprus, with a total of 24,639 confirmed cases and 133 deaths.
