Russian Satellite News Agency reported on January 4 that a source from the Russian Defense Industry Group revealed that the Russian naval Northern Fleet Type 22350 frigate “Marshal Gorshkov” will complete the first salvo test of the “Zircon” hypersonic missile by the end of 2021.
According to the report, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, in 2020, Gorshkov completed three “Zircon” missile launches within the test framework, two of which were launched for maritime targets and one for land targets.
In the above cases, only one missile was launched.
Sources said: “According to the national missile system test plan, by the end of 2021, the first salvo of several ‘zircon’ missiles will be completed from Marshal Gorshkov.
The missile will be launched from the ship at intervals of several seconds.” He explained that salvo “is designed to not only provide missile tests, but also test the capabilities of shipborne weapons control systems, including when it performs tasks that carry out intensive missile strikes on both sea and land targets.”
