Brazzaville, January 1 Kinshasa: Local officials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo said on January 1 that an armed attack occurred in the northeast of the country, killing at least 26 civilians.
Officials in North Kivu say a village in Beni area was recently attacked by Ugandan anti-government armed “Allied Democratic Forces”, killing civilians.
In addition, the “ADD” attacked the military several times, attacking a military camp in the Beni area on December 28, 2020, killing 17 soldiers.
After Uganda’s “Allied Democratic Forces” were besieged and suppressed by the Ukrainian government in the late 1990s, they fled to the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and have been active since 2017.
In addition to anti-Uganda government activities, the “Allied Democratic Forces” often attack the local population, as well as the Democratic Republic of the Congolese security forces and United Nations peacekeeping forces.
