Auckland, New Zealand, will be the world’s earliest big city to welcome 2021. On the evening of December 31, Auckland’s traditional New Year’s fireworks and lighting performances will be held normally.
Starting in the afternoon, a series of New Year’s celebrations will be held in some parts of downtown Oakland. At 21:00, the Sky Tower and Harbour Bridge, the landmark buildings of Auckland, will hold a wonderful light show, including plants, birds and totems unique to New Zealand.
At midnight, the sky tower will set off five minutes of fireworks, which will be the tallest fireworks show in the southern hemisphere. New Zealand’s television and radio will be broadcast live.
New Zealand’s capital Wellington, Queenstown on the South Island and other cities will also hold a series of New Year’s greetings.
The latest figures from the New Zealand Health Department show that in the past 48 hours to 9:00 local time on the 31st, six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 imported from abroad were all in isolation facilities, and there were no local transmission cases.
New Zealand was one of the earliest and more strict countries to adopt national “lockdown” measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.
