According to a report by the Russian News Agency, on the 23rd local time, the United States announced the imposition of sanctions on several government agencies and officials in Belarus, which was published on the official website of the U.S. Treasury Department.
These include the Central Election and Referendum Commission, Kazakievich, First Deputy Minister of the Interior, the Alpha Special Forces of the Belarusian National Security Council, the General Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Minsk City Special Police Force.
The United States said that these government departments and personnel were placed on the sanctions list because of their use of violence against peaceful demonstrators and tampering with the presidential election results.
In addition, the U.S. State Department announced that 39 officials of Belarus had been included in the entry restriction list to express dissatisfaction with the Belarusian government’s destruction of the democratic process.
Previously, the European Union also imposed sanctions on Belarus, including immigration restrictions and financials. The sanctions list included 88 government officials and seven government organizations, including Belarusian President Lukashenka himself.
