December 22nd local time, MONUSCO Special Chief of Staff Nancy Bright came to Bukavu China Level II Hospital to inspect the construction of the COVID-19 nucleic acid testing laboratory and the development of medical work, marking the official transfer of the laboratory to the Chinese peacekeeping medical unit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for use and management.
At present, the global COVID-19 epidemic is raging, and the number of confirmed patients is on the rise, which the United Nations attaches great importance to.
October 26, the United Nations Global Response to the Novel Coronavirus Conference made it clear that 18 new coronavirus nucleic acid testing laboratories will be added to the United Nations global peacekeeping mission area to carry out novel coronavirus nucleic acid testing.
This is the first COVID-19 nucleic acid testing laboratory for Chinese peacekeeping forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and also They took on the task of testing for COVID-19 nucleic acid for the first time.
It is understood that the laboratory is located at the isolation center of the United Nations Civil Headquarters in Bukavu next to the China Level II Hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The laboratory consists of three areas: specimen preparation room, product analysis room and report delivery room. Equipped with a micro polymerase chain reaction analyzer system, referred to as the micro PCR instrument system, this system is a portable, automatic, fast, real-time, micro nucleic acid detection platform.
After collecting the patient’s throat swab specimen, medical staff stored it in a special virus preservation solution, which can be 100% inactivated against COVID-19.
The nurse then transfers the specimen to the laboratory through a special specimen transport box. After the specimen enters the laboratory, the inspector extracts the viral nucleic acid and amplifies and analyzes the viral nucleic acid through a micro PCR instrument.
The results can be detected at the earliest an hour and a half, with an accuracy rate of more than 95%.
In the process of collection, transfer, detection and disinfection, medical staff wear and remove secondary protective equipment in accordance with the standards of Wuhan “Vulcan Mountain” and “Thunder Mountain” hospitals, strictly abide by the operating procedures for COVID-19 nucleic acid detection, completely destroy the environmental sites involved, and minimize the exposure and infection of medical staff.
Risk of coronary virus.
It is reported that while doing a good job in personal protection and disinfection of personnel and places in the process of COVID-19 nucleic acid testing, China’s peacekeeping medical team in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has also improved the emergency plan and the isolation process of COVID-19 positive patients in response to possible emergencies to ensure the smooth completion of the task.
